​​KCommunications, LLC is a Chicago-based boutique public relations agency providing businesses, non-profits and artists communications, marketing and branding consulting services. The agency works with a large network of professionals and institutions in the related fields to provide results for our clients. Our strategy is to serve as our clients’ advocate while cultivating long-term relationships with media professionals and business partners. 

FOUNDER AND PRINCIPAL: Kimiyo Naka, a bilingual professional (Japanese, English), has over 15 years of experience in communications, media relations and project management. As a strategic thinker with strong verbal and written skills, she specializes in building rapport with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Prior to launching her own public relations business in March 2015, Kimiyo worked at Encyclopædia Britannica for 11 years as an International Editorial Project Manager, completing a number of challenging traditional and digital publishing projects around the globe, especially in emerging markets including China, India, and Egypt. Kimiyo then pursued her calling in public relations because of her passion for telling stories of fascinating things and inspirational people. Kimiyo honed her expertise in media relations as an editorial intern at the Chicago Reporter, and her writing has been published by the Chicago Tribune Magazine, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Chicago Reader, and the Chicago Reporter. She was a finalist in the Feature Category of the Peter Lisagor Awards 2001. In 2013, she profiled Chicago in an extensive article for All Nippon Airways's travel web site. Since launching her own PR business, Kimiyo has worked on high profile projects such as SKYLANDING, Yoko Ono's public art installation in Chicago's Jackson Park, and served as the spokesperson for Japan Day 2015, an annual festival attracting thousands of visitors. In addition to securing press coverage for her clients in numerous national as well as local outlets including ABC 7 and WTTW Chicago PBS, she has also personally represented civic organizations like the Osaka Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International and provided expert commentary on arts and culture on WBEZ Chicago Public Radio, the Chicago Tribune, and NHK Japanese public television. Kimiyo has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Columbia College Chicago, and serves as Co-Chair of the Osaka Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International and is a member of the Japan America Society of Chicago

HEAD WRITER:​ Kathleen Kuiper is an editor and writer with a strong and abiding interest in the arts. As the senior editor for Arts and Culture at Encyclopaedia Britannica for many years, she trained and managed other editors as well as researching, writing, and editing articles on theatre, dance, art, literature, languages, and peoples of the world. She commissioned essays from world-renowned scholars and worked with them to create reference material designed and written for the general reader. She is noted for her attention to detail and considers clear communication an essential element of the writer’s art. She has worked extensively in both print and digital formats, and she has managed a number of projects, including Merriam-Webster’s Encyclopedia Literature and a series of books on Native Americans. Digital projects include features on the Harlem Renaissance, Women’s History, Shakespeare, and Black History, to name a few.

CREATIVE MANAGER: Mayuko Sato-Broughton has spent her career developing innovative digital and print designs as well as web sites for clients across a broad range of industries. She works closely with clients to provide them with guidance and input while listening to their visions and goals for their web presence. She very much enjoys working with ambitious and creative individuals and helps clients achieve business goals through forward-thinking designs and strategies. As a native Japanese living in Chicago, she is enthusiastic about networking with like minded individuals and enjoys introducing Japanese culture to people in Chicagoland.
